The Northampton Town & County Club

140 years of The Northampton and County Club

To celebrate our 140th year in 2013, we commissioned a book entitled "A HISTORY OF THE NORTHAMPTON AND COUNTY CLUB, GEORGE ROW 1873 – 2013" Written and compiled by Enid Jarvis

The book includes:
  • 169 pages. Over 200 photographs and maps, many in colour from both members and local collections
  • Index of some 600 names
  • Published to mark the 140th anniversary of the Northampton and County Club, the book tells the story of how the original gentlemen’s club in Northampton survived and flourished by adapting itself to the changing times. Two world wars, changing attitudes to social class and to women and, above all, the huge changes in Northampton itself in the 1960s are all recorded and brought to life by memories of present day members. Importance is given to the Grade 2* Listed building and medieval vaults, with a chapter devoted to its architectural features and its fascinating history as a town house and a hospital.
